“Rejoicing in persecution” might sound like an oxymoron, but this is exactly what the Bible teaches Christians to do! Over the next few weeks we will explore this topic with the help of John Piper, one of the pastors at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minnesota (USA).
In August-September 2011, John is in Australia to preach at a number of events hosted by KCC, including engage, oxygen and one. John Piper is a much-loved preacher and teacher who is known for his passion for sharing the supremacy of Christ. He has devoted much time to addressing the topic of suffering.
This blog series is taken from John Piper’s article “Suffering: The Sacrifice of Christian Hedonism” which is featured in Voice of the Martyrs book “The Triumphant Church.” We will be looking at 5 Reasons to Rejoice in Persecution:
- Your Reward is Great
- It Deepens Assurance
- It Leads to Glory
- Others See the Worth of Christ
- The Happiest People in the World
We hope you are stretched in your thinking on what the Bible says about persecution, joy and following Jesus. We hope that this series encourages you to experience greater joy in serving and suffering for Christ.
