We are the weird ones: What is the ‘normal’ Christian life?

Adrian Tam, Director of RICE Revolution, shares his response to Asia Bibi’s death sentence.

Here in Sydney it’s easy to assume that our experience of Christianity is the norm. But the moment we open our eyes to the reality of the life that Jesus has called us to, we realise that we in the West are the weird ones – and people like Asia Bibi are the ones living a more ‘normal’ and authentic Christian life. I’m grieving for the suffering that Asia is experiencing, but I’m also rejoicing with her because she has been counted worthy to be shamed for the name of Christ.

How I wish we – as young Christians in Sydney – would be able to know and experience the true satisfaction and joy that Asia must be having in Christ right now, when she can really say this and mean it: “for me to live is Christ, and to die is gain”.
