The life of Iranian Pastor Youcef Nardarkani continues to hang in the balance. Youcef was originally sentenced to death for apostasy. But now, new false charges have been levelled against him, including rape and extortion.
According to the American Center for Law and Justice, false rape charges are often used by Iranian authorities to execute religious and political dissidents. They state:
What is clear from these developments is that Pastor Youcef remains in grave danger of execution more now than ever.
There has been widespread international concern since Youcef refused to renounce his faith in court hearings last week. Secular media such as CNN, Fox News and the International Business Times (just to name a few) have reported Youcef’s case.
Thousands of Christians around the world have committed to pray and speak up for our persecuted brother. High profile Christian leaders have also voiced their support for Youcef on Twitter:
@BrianCHouston: RT @adrianuno: Urgent! please join me in objecting to the execution of Iranian pastor. #Nadarkhani
@RickWarren: IRAN: Pastor Yousef #Nadarkhani is about to be executed for his faith. Please protest this!
@NickyGumbel: IRAN: Pastor Yousef #Nadarkhani is about to be executed for his faith. Could we not mobilise the power of twitter?
Todd Nettleton of Voice of the Martyrs USA says, “the international pressure is working. The Iranian government is hearing from people around the world”.
Thank you to everyone who has shared Youcef’s story on Facebook and Twitter. Please continue to speak up for our persecuted brother. Remember to pray for him.
BOUND WITH THEM.
